Wendell — A lifetime of service to families and children has earned Linda Johnson the Wendell Mayor’s Award.

Johnson, the Executive Director of the East Wake Education Foundation, has served in a number of roles involving children and families.

She began her career as a social worker more than 30 years ago. She later was named to a school advisory board representing eastern Wake County. She then served for 12 years as a member of the

Wake County Board of Education.

After leaving that board, she created the East Wake Education Foundation which, for 15 years as served children and families in Wendell, Knightdale and Zebulon.

Johnson was presented the award last night by Mayor Harold Broadwell at the Wendell Chamber of Commerce’s annual banquet.
